Harkwood Services was commissioned by the Vrije University in Amsterdam to enhance the capability of the BabyDev devices developed for the University of London. The goal to provide spacial positioning of devices in a given space.

The Challenge

Creating Time Difference of Arrival (TDOA) solution to capture real time positions of BabyDev devices within a space. Updating the firmware in BabyDev devices to use their Ultra Wide Band (UWB) as beacons for the system.

Our Solution

We designed and manufactured a complete custom electronics solution featuring:

Anchor devices

  • Multi-role devices which can be blink receivers or system controllers
  • Ultra Wide Band and WiFi radios
  • Wireless clock synchronisation for the TDOA application
  • Positioning engine to capture blink packets, calculate and store position data
Our Role

Complete Product Development Custom electronics design, embedded firmware development, mechanical enclosure design, and manufacturing coordination. Delivering a turnkey solution from concept to deployment.

Project Significance

This is an enhancement to the BabyDev devices, further enhancing their roles available within the research projects that use them.
